How the sums work

Every figure on this site comes from one calculation: power in watts, divided by 1,000, times the hours you use it, times your price per kWh. A 2,000W heater running for one hour at 26.32p per kWh uses 2 kWh and costs 52.6p.

We use the Ofgem price cap because most UK households on a standard tariff pay close to it. If you are on a fixed or EV tariff, put your own rate into any calculator. Read how we calculate for the sources behind each number.

Next price change

Ofgem will announce the cap for 1 January to 31 March 2027 on or before 25 November 2026. We update every page on this site the same day.
