Privacy policy

Last updated 30 October 2026

WattCosts does not ask you to sign up or give your name to use any calculator. This page explains the little information that is collected, why, and the choices you have.

Who is responsible

WattCosts (wattcosts.co.uk) is run by Owais Farooq, who is the data controller for this site. Contact: hello@wattcosts.co.uk.

Calculators

The numbers you type into a calculator (wattage, hours, your price per kWh) are worked out in your own browser. They are not sent to us or stored on our server.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These are used to keep the site secure and working, and are kept only as long as the host needs them. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in running a secure website.

We use Google Search Console to see how pages appear in Google search. It reports search figures to us and does not place cookies on your device. We do not currently use analytics cookies; if that changes, this page will be updated first.

Advertising and cookies

This site uses, or may use, Google AdSense to show adverts. Adverts help pay for hosting and for keeping prices up to date.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
• Other ad technology providers that work with Google may also serve ads here. Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before any advertising cookies are set, through a consent message provided by Google. You can refuse, and you can change your choice later using the privacy settings link at the bottom of each page. If you refuse, you may still see adverts, but they will not be personalised.

If you email us

If you write to hello@wattcosts.co.uk, we keep your email address and message so we can reply and act on what you sent, for example a correction. We do not add you to any mailing list. We delete messages when they are no longer needed, and within two years at most.

Where information is handled

WattCosts is run from outside the UK. Emails you send are read and stored outside the UK, using a reputable email provider. Server logs are held by Hostinger. Google processes advertising data under its own privacy policy.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@wattcosts.co.uk. If you are unhappy with our reply, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

This site is meant for adults managing household energy costs. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if anything changes, and the date at the top will show when.
