Comfort Control or Yours & Mine?

  • Comfort Control has one controller and is rated at 70W. It comes in single, double and king sizes. At 1.84p an hour on high, warming the bed for 30 minutes costs 0.92p.
  • Yours & Mine has a separate controller for each side, each rated at 60W, with three heat levels per side. If only one of you wants it on, it costs 1.58p an hour, a little less than the Comfort Control. With both sides on high it is 3.16p an hour.

Silentnight sells other ranges too, such as Luxury Hotel Collection and Winter Warmer. If yours is not listed, check the wattage on the controller and use the calculator.

Pre-heat, then turn it down

The cheapest way to use any electric blanket is to warm the bed on high for 20 to 30 minutes before you get in, then switch to a low setting or off. That costs 0.92p or less a night with the Comfort Control. Lower settings work by keeping the heating wires off for longer, so you pay for only part of each hour.

Silentnight blanket or heating the bedroom?

An all-night session on high with the Comfort Control uses 0.56 kWh. A 2kW heater uses that in under 17 minutes. If the blanket lets you keep the bedroom heating off overnight, it is one of the cheapest ways to sleep warm. Compare with what an oil-filled radiator costs to run.

Safety checks before winter

  • Look for scorch marks, worn fabric or a damaged cable and stop using it if you find any.
  • Follow Silentnight's instructions on whether your model is suitable for all-night use.
  • Do not use it with a hot water bottle, and do not fold it while it is switched on.

Common questions

How much does a Silentnight electric blanket cost to run?

A Silentnight Comfort Control blanket, rated at 70W, costs 1.84p an hour on its highest setting. The dual-control Yours & Mine costs 1.58p an hour per side, or 3.16p with both sides on high.

How much does a Silentnight blanket cost to run all night?

Eight hours on the highest setting costs 14.7p for the Comfort Control and 25.3p for the Yours & Mine with both sides on. On lower settings it costs less. Only use a blanket all night if its instructions say it is suitable for overnight use.

Is the dual-control Silentnight blanket more expensive to run?

Only when both sides are on. Each side of the Yours & Mine is rated at 60W, so one person using their half costs 1.58p an hour, slightly less than a 70W single-control blanket.

Does a lower heat setting save money?

Yes. The controller switches the heating wires on and off, staying off for longer on low settings, so you pay for less of each hour. Pre-heating on high and then turning down is a cheap way to use it.

How do I find the wattage of my Silentnight blanket?

It is printed on the controller and on the label sewn into the blanket. If your model is not listed here, type its wattage into the calculator.
